It's been a long time coming, but finally, we installed the last piece of fibre cement siding last Sunday afternoon. Yes, we still have a few pieces of white trim board to install, but we ran out and need to pick up another couple of lengths of the Smartside trim boards. We are thinking that Home Depot carries it so it should be no problem. We had to rig our two ladders so I could safely clamber up the roof while securing everything to the to small triangular areas on the upstairs exterior walls. It worked well and took the drama out of working on the 45 degree sloping roof. That roof supplied most of the challenges with the siding, requiring cuts to meet that angle and also accomodate the 20 degree slope on the second floor roof.
I have to say that the house is looking great! We're so happy to have the outside finished. Now, we can dedicate ourselves to finishing the yard cleanup that Carol has been working on. She has been busy whittling down the last of the construction garbage, sorting it into "garbage", "dump", "useful" and "burn barrel" piles. She has also been splitting firewood. We have lots of logs at the house but most of it still needs to be split and stacked ready for the long, cold winter months. This coming weekend is Thanksgiving and we are hoping that we will be able to finish both those projects over the 3 day "holiday".
In the immortal words of Ned Stark, "Winter's coming!" We are already seeing some temps in the minus numbers (Celsius) overnight. It doesn't seem that long ago when we were trying to beat the heat! The seasons seem to change so quickly up here. Snow can't be far off. I'll have to take a serious look at winterizing the vehicles (ATV, tractor, truck, etc.) over the next few weekends. I have several oil and filter changes to do as well - generator and tractor. The list just never seems to get any smaller!
